How Tax Days compares

Every tax residency tracker we know of, compared on price, privacy, and rule coverage. Tax Days is $29.99/year, on-device, and tracks automatically or manually, your choice. That does not make it the right answer for everyone, so each page below says plainly where the alternative wins.

13 comparisons. Pricing and features were checked against each vendor's own site and App Store listing in August 2026. Where a vendor does not publish something, we say so rather than guess.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How does Tax Days compare to other tax residency trackers?

Tax Days covers US states, the federal Substantial Presence Test, Schengen 90/180, and the UK Statutory Residence Test in one app at $29.99/year, with automatic background tracking or manual trip entry, and the location history stays on your device either way. A few competitors span a similar range of rules, Days Monitor and Flamingo in particular, so this is not a category of one. Most of the rest specialise: US-only (TaxBird, TaxDay, Domicile365, Southbound), enterprise-only (Topia, Equus), or premium advised memberships (Monaeo, Daysium). See the individual comparisons for the specifics.

Which tax residency tracker is cheapest?

Days Monitor is the cheapest paid app we compare, at $19.99/year, and it also offers a free browser calculator. Tax Days is next at $29.99/year with an in-app free tier, level with Flamingo's entry tier. Above that come iReside ($34.99/year), TaxBird ($39.99/year), TrackingDays (location tracking at $41.99/year, with US states in a separate app), TaxDay ($9.99/month, roughly $120/year), Domicile365 (about $220/year), and Southbound ($249/year once early access ends, though it is free today). Monaeo ($999/year), Daysium (from £950/year), and the enterprise platforms are priced for a different buyer entirely.

Do I need GPS tracking for tax residency?

No, and you shouldn't have to choose between automation and privacy. Most trackers in this category infer your day count automatically from your phone's location, which is convenient, but several of them sync that location history to a vendor's servers. Tax Days offers automatic tracking on Pro using battery-efficient significant-change monitoring, processed entirely on-device, and it proposes trips for you to confirm. You can also turn location off completely and log trips by hand. Southbound and TrackingDays also keep the record on your device rather than on their own servers.

Which app should I pick for international travel?

Look for explicit Schengen 90/180 and, if the UK matters, the Statutory Residence Test, because a generic day counter will get the rolling window wrong. Tax Days, Days Monitor, Flamingo, and TrackingDays all handle Schengen. The US-focused apps (TaxBird, TaxDay, Domicile365, Southbound) do not advertise it, so they are the wrong tool once you leave the country.

Which app should I pick for US state residency?

The thing that matters is whether the app encodes each state's own statutory test rather than a generic day threshold, because New York's 184-day rule and the statutory-residence tests in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania do not work the same way. Tax Days, TaxBird, TaxDay, Domicile365, and iReside all cover all 50 states. Remember that a snowbird has two problems, proving enough days in the new state and few enough in the old one, so single-state tools only solve half of it.

Should I just use a spreadsheet instead of an app?

A spreadsheet can work for one simple jurisdiction with a generous threshold you'll never approach. It breaks down with multiple jurisdictions, partial-day rules, or rolling windows like Schengen 90/180, and auditors tend to trust a tested app's contemporaneous log over a hand-maintained file. See the full spreadsheet comparison below.

Are these comparisons kept up to date?

Each comparison states the date its pricing and feature claims were checked, and links you back to the competitor's own site to confirm. Subscription prices and feature sets change, so treat every figure here as a starting point rather than a quote. Where a competitor does not publish something, we say that instead of guessing.
